Job Summary and Mission
The job of an installer is to install the flooring products for customers. The installer plays an important role in the customer service experience and quality of the product. The installer reports directly to the installation manager or sales manager and works with the sales professional at the store. The installer also supervises the installation assistant and other helpers on the job.
Summary of Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the installation manager or sales manager, the installer is primarily responsible for handling materials, installing Carpet One products, and following up on all job assignments. This includes loading and unloading vehicles and completing all required paperwork.
Maintain a level of professionalism while representing the Carpet One brand on the road and with the customers.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workspace in the installer van and during the installation.
Maintain a level of professional knowledge on Carpet One products and installation methods.
Complete the job by installing the Carpet One product with attention to detail.
Fill-out and process appropriate paperwork before and after the installation
Communicate with the salesperson at the store if any issues occur during the installation to avoid addressing problems with the customer directly.
Demonstrate punctuality and time management by arriving to the job site on time.
Communicate effectively with the customer to ensure a successful installation.
Meet all core standards as defined in the Core Standard Catalog for Carpet One.
Expectations and Qualifications In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a satisfactory level. This job may also require you to drive between multiple locations including, but not limited to, installation and customer sites. The installer will be expected to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the business, standards, installation procedures, and products of Carpet One. Installers are expected to perform according to the following expectations in order to successfully carry-out their assigned job responsibilities.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
At least one year of installation experience is encouraged.
Mathematical Skills:
Understand and effectively communicate numerical data.

Ability to operate a truck or van.
Ability to push, pull and lift materials weighing up to 70 pounds.

Duties - Join edges of carpet and seam edges where necessary, by sewing or by using tape with glue and heated carpet iron.
- Cut and trim carpet to fit along wall edges, openings, and projections, finishing the edges with a wall trimmer.
- Inspect the surface to be covered to determine its condition, and correct any imperfections that might show through carpet or cause carpet to wear unevenly.
- Roll out, measure, mark, and cut carpeting to size with a carpet knife, following floor sketches and allowing extra carpet for final fitting.
- Plan the layout of the carpet, allowing for expected traffic patterns and placing seams for best appearance and longest wear.
- Stretch carpet to align with walls and ensure a smooth surface, and press carpet in place over tack strips or use staples, tape, tacks or glue to hold carpet in place.
- Take measurements and study floor sketches to calculate the area to be carpeted and the amount of material needed.
- Cut carpet padding to size and install padding, following prescribed method.
- Install carpet on some floors using adhesive, following prescribed method.
- Nail tack strips around area to be carpeted or use old strips to attach edges of new carpet.
- Fasten metal treads across door openings or where carpet meets flooring to hold carpet in place.
- Measure, cut and install tackless strips along the baseboard or wall.
- Draw building diagrams and record dimensions.
- Move furniture from area to be carpeted and remove old carpet and padding.
- Cut and bind material.
- Clean up before and after installation, including vacuuming carpet and discarding remnant pieces.
