Summary
Responsible for the daily operations and management of the program at their assigned location.Provides direct supervision of staff and is the primary contact for parents and is the TLC liaison at their assigned site. Oversees all program activities and may interview prospective employees referred by the Human Resources Manager.Provides direct guidance to staff and children in the program.Must hold State of CT - School Age Head Teacher Certificate.
Duties 25% - Supervision and Development of Staff - On a daily basis, provides guidance and direction to assigned staff to ensure TLC's philosophy, mission, and program needs are met. This includes:
Manage staff to ensure they adequately supervise children and implement daily plans.
Provide motivation and training of staff to ensure they perform all duties required.
In conjunction with the TLC Administration, implement appropriate disciplinary actions if staff fails to follow policies and procedures.
Conduct annual evaluation of center staff to ensure they are provided with appropriate reinforcement regarding their performance.Provide weekly evaluation of new staff members during probationary period.
Establishing and enforcing procedures which are site specific.
25% - Supervision of Children - Ensure safety of all children enrolled in program by enforcing TLC's center procedures. This includes:
Be a positive role model for children and staff.
Interact with children and use positive techniques to guide their behavior.
Ensuring a controlled attendance process to account for all children at all times.
Establishing a structure for all programs that provides a safe and controlled environment for children with clearly defined staff responsibilities.Ensuring that program format allows for maintenance of adequate staffing ratios at all times in each licensed area.
Ensuring that all licensed space is clean and safe for children.
Ensure all center incidents and accidents are documented appropriately and completely.
20% - Program Content - Develops the activities for a specific center in line with direction from the Program Director. This includes:
Complete daily plans for all program activities affording children broad range of options and ability to choose preference.
Solicit input from children and provide the Program Director with enrichment ideas.
15% - Customer Service - Interacts with Parents on a daily basis to maximize customer satisfaction with the operations and policies of the center.Refers significant issues to Program Director where local response may be inadequate to resolve problems.Utilize tools such as parent board and monthly newsletter to keep parents informed of general center activities and upcoming events or concerns.
10% - Administration - Coordinates the daily operation of the center with the Program Director. This includes:
Ensure that center meets all regulatory requirements (i.e. staff and child files, first aid and safety, etc.).
Communicate with the appropriate Administration staff to keep them aware of all center issues and problems.
Maintain effective communication with all appropriate Trumbull school personnel.
Ensure the center has adequate supplies and food stocks to meet the needs of the children and planned program activities.
Accountable for identified financial responsibilities.
5% - Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements State of CT Head Teacher Certification for School Aged children
CPR/First Aid Training
Administration of Medication/EPI Training
Twenty (20) years of age or older; the personal qualities needed to supervise others.
A high school diploma or equivalency certificate; and one of the following:
Option (1): at least five hundred and forty (540) hours of documented supervised experience over a nine (9) month span of time, including working with children in a program with comparable standards to the standards in this or another state, which program must serve children of the same ages and developmental stages who are served at the child day care center; and twelve (12) credits in early childhood education or child development, elementary education, recreation, group social work or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education with program approval from the Board of Governors of Higher Education; or
Option (2): approval from the Department as head teacher prior to January 1, 1994: or
Option (3): a four (4) year college degree in elementary education, recreation, group social work or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education with program approval from the Board of Governors of Higher Education, with at least two hundred and seventy hours (270) of documented supervised experience working with unrelated children of the same ages to be served in this child day care center or group day care home.This supervised experience could be student teaching or a practicum assignment.
Must be certified in an approved Pediatric First Aid and Safety Course, Administration of Medication including Injectables, Adult, Infant and Child CPR.
Maintain and successfully complete the Continuing Education regulation in accordance with Connecticut State licensing regulation.
