Special Education Teacher Mentor
Are you a certified teacher looking to share your knowledge and experience supporting the next generation of educational professionals?
Beyond Learning Center is currently recruiting for Special Education Teacher Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year, offering flexible per diem schedules.
Whether you select a 2, 3 or 4 day work week, you can utilize your experience and expertise to provide education services for students with developmental disabilities, with an additional emphasis on supporting and coaching novice teacher colleagues or teaching assistants in their development.
Candidates must possess NYS Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities. Retirees and others are encouraged to apply!
Candidates must possess New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities. Any grade level certification in these areas is acceptable. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Write specific lesson plans that adhere to the Common Core; are chronologically and developmentally appropriate; reflect differentiated instruction techniques; incorporate technology are creative, and are aligned to appropriate state learning standards.
- Serve as a model for novice teachers in the areas of instructional design, classroom management, professional conduct and collaboration, IEP development, communication with families and related-service providers, and other areas as appropriate.
- Share the knowledge and wisdom gained from your experiences as a teacher with others in an effort to support and coach new teacher colleagues or teaching assistants.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to support multiple classrooms of children at a variety of ages and levels of need.
- Support novice teachers or teaching assistants in developing Individualized Education Program ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Beyond Support Network practice, procedures, and policies.
- Assure that IEP mandates are fulfilled and document progress toward goals on the IEP.
- Makes appropriate academic recommendations as a result of testing, professional judgment and students' needs.
- Engages students in activities that are interesting, meaningful, differentiated, and aligned to New York State Learning Standards.

- Ensure a clean and orderly work

- Attend meetings that may occur outside an employee's regularly scheduled work
- Ensure that supplemental classroom aides and teacher assistants work productively as part of the classroom Support novice teachers and teacher assistants in accomplishing this as needed.

- Promptly reporting instances of policy and procedure deviations to the Principal or designee.

- Ensures that students' augmentative communication devices are utilized throughout the day by all classroom staff.
- Assume responsibility for the management of the class, students and staff, at all times.
- Provide clear and succinct direction to students and
- Utilize trauma-informed supportive blocking (Ukeru) as needed to help students remain safe regain self-control.
- Advocate for each student and
- Organize and maintain daily, weekly and/or monthly notes, reports and/or records required for each
- Use data collection systems as directed by IEP Coordinator and/or behavior staff.
- Foster students' independence, ensuring that students achieve the greatest level of independence possible and appropriate for that particular student.
- Ensure that verbal and written communications including tone, demeanor, and content with students, staff, and parents are at all times professional, appropriate and respectful.
- Models and demonstrates expected student behavior.
- Establish an effective data collection and charting system to monitor students' Support novice teachers and teacher assistants in the completion of this task as well.
- Collaborate with families and involve them in the education of their child to the greatest extent possible.
- Participates in staff training, in-services, committee and departmental team meetings.
- Refers students and their families to community resources and services.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently as well as in conjunction with other staff members and members of the instructional team.
- Submits maintenance requests when necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the room and its content.
- Consistently comply with all agency policies and procedures.
- Constantly maintain high professional standards with regard to personal behavior and interactions with other staff, families, districts and the community at large.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Principal and/or Director of Education.
